One of the most iconic mid-size sedans in production, the Honda Accord, moves forward in 2021 with yet another family of captivating models. They include turbocharged power, a hybrid model with outstanding efficiency, and many advanced and standard features. The Accord Sedan includes six well-equipped models, and the Hybrid offers two advanced trims.
To help illustrate how the Accord stays ahead of the competition, we compare the Accord to the 2021 Kia K5, a newcomer in the segment.
The 2021 Honda Accord is efficient and generously powered
The Accord features several powertrain options that offer satisfying power and efficiency. A 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers the SE, Sport, E-XL, and Touring sedan models. It produces 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque, which adds plenty of response. The K5's standard engine is also a turbocharged unit, this one is a 1.6-litre, but the output falls short at 180 horsepower.
Further comparing these standard engines, the Accord features better all-gas fuel efficiency. The Accord's 1.5-litre has a fuel consumption rating as low as 7.8 L/100 km in the city and 6.5 L/100 km on the highway. This surpasses the K5's rating at 9.2 L/100 km in the city and 6.9 L/100 km on the highway.
The Accord also offers a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that outputs 252 horsepower and 272 lb-ft of torque. This is standard in the Sport 2.0 and Touring 2.0 models. The Kia K5 also offers a more powerful engine, but it’s only available in its most expensive top-of-the line GT model, and you will sacrifice fuel efficiency.
The 2021 Honda Accord is more advanced
The Accord features a hybrid-powered model, which is something the K5 does not offer. The Accord Hybrid includes a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that combines with an electric motor that outputs a solid 212 horsepower. Most importantly, it offers the best efficiency out of both model lineups with a fuel economy rating of 5.0 L/100 km in the city and 5.0 L/100 km on the highway. That's great for your wallet and even better for the planet.
The Accord features advanced driver assistance technologies that are standard, including: Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist System, Blind Spot Information system, Rear Cross Traffic Monitor system, and many more.
