The Return of a Legend: What the 2026 Honda Prelude Means for Driving Enthusiasts

Montreal has always had a special relationship with cars. From car meets on Saint-Laurent Boulevard to sporty getaways in the Laurentians, the metropolis is home to a dynamic automotive culture. For enthusiasts who grew up admiring the sport coupes of the 1990s, an icon is making its comeback: the 2026 Honda Prelude.

After 24 years of absence, the Prelude returns with a bold proposition: to be the first electric sport hybrid coupe to offer authentic driving pleasure combined with modern energy efficiency.

A Legend Resurfaces

For those who remember, the name Prelude evokes specific memories. Let's recall its rear-wheel steering system in the 1980s. And what about its ATTS torque vectoring system in the 1990s? Its design has always been elegant. Its performance has always been accessible.

The sixth generation adds to this legacy. Honda unveiled the 2026 Prelude on September 4th in Markham, Ontario. The vehicle is expected to arrive at Canadian dealerships by the end of 2025.

A Hybrid Sport Coupe for the Modern Era

The two-motor hybrid system combines two large electric motors with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle direct-injection 4-cylinder engine to produce 200 horsepower and a robust $232 \text{ pound-feet}$ of torque.

The Type R Chassis Meets Hybrid

Elements borrowed from the Type R:

  • Dual-axis strut front suspension
  • Wider tracks (stance) at the front and rear
  • $350 \text{ mm}$ ($13.8\text{-inch}$) front Brembo brakes with four-piston monoblock calipers
  • $304.8 \text{ mm}$ ($12.0\text{-inch}$) rear brakes

The standard adaptive damper suspension offers distinct characteristics in each mode: Comfort, GT, Sport, and Individual.

Availability and Next Steps

Honda Canada has confirmed that the 2026 Prelude will arrive at Canadian dealerships by the end of 2025.
